starting project 250

Well I'm waiting to receive a cyclone cylinder and head that I found used
and a 34mm carb
I plan on putting them on my 2000 Xplorer 250 4X4 as soon as I can get the cylinder bored out and the head milled
Anyone have thoughts or experience on parts selection I would be interested to see it here in this thread???
best torque pipe...........as I mostly run in the hills sometimes mud
amount I should shave off either stock head or cyclone head and still be able to run pump gas (92 octane).... is there any differecnce from a regular 250 head and a cyclone head???
jetting specs (aprox 3000 feet above sea level).....
clutching suggestions especially helix angle.....

well I emailed them asking for pipe, clutching and a few other suggestions
we'll see what they say anf go from there
keep the posts comming I would still like to hear of other experiences building 250 engines to run alittle stronger

idk if he'll answer because i think hes been really busy because he hasnt been on here for a while and wen i was ordering stuff the other day he sounded busy. wait and see if he answers but call him if he doesnt especially for clutching. wen u build up the engine put in a wiseco pistion kit so u wont have to worry about the stock piston.

Been there, done that. lol I have a Cyclone top end on my Explorer. First I did not get a hi compression piston, I'm not sure if one is even availible on the 250. I did go with a Wiseco replacement. The head did appear to be different than the stock 250. It looked as though the Cyclone had a shallower dome area than the Explorer. I did not measure it, but it looked more than obvious. I did not have mine milled. I went with Aaen trail pipe and clutch kit for a Explorer. Overall I have been happy with the performance. Then again I have nothing to compare it too. The pipe does get very hot. It has melted the plastic on that side. My Cyclone had the same problem and I think any pipe will. I have recently changed my clutching and like it as little better. I now run the Cyclone spring and weights. This hits the power band better. I also run the Cyclone carb with Cyclone jetting. Tried going up in size, but was real rich. 190 main, jet needle at the lowest position. I can't remeber the pilot of the top of my head, but it's the stock size. I think I backed it out about 1/2 turn over stock due to rich condition at idle and low speed. Overall it is much quicker than the stock Explorer, but it's still pretty slow. I had a roller action secondary on it and that really helped a bunch. I took it off to put on my Scrambler, but will get another unit as soon as posible. Let's put it this way. Before these mods a Tblzr 250 would walk away from the Explorer. With all the mods I'd walk away from the Tblzr. When I removed the roller action kit the Tblzer slowly takes me again. The lst thing I am working on as well is finding out if the Explorer and Cyclone have different flywheels. The Cyclone ramps and down up pretty quick and the Explorer does not. They do have different parts numbers, but that is not uncommon for Polaris to run different parst numbers for parts that are basically the same. Hope this is a good start. Let me know if I can help, heck you may be helping me after too long.

ok what is the color on the cyclone spring?
what weights are the cyclone ones
right now I think I'm running "F" weights at 42 grams with the stock blue/green spring and a 40 degree helix all around pretty lazy
the stock Xplorer runs at about 5500 rpm and the cyclone was rated at 7000 rpm what are you running your Xplorer at for rpm??
seems like a guy should just go buy a 400..........but I really like my 250 it's light simple easy to handle so far the only draw back has been a lack of power but not too bad and the poor ground clearance with the 23 inch tires up front

Polaris brown spring. I want to say the weights had a 16 on them. Not sure of the weight of them. I do not have a tach on it, so I can not give you an answer on the RPMs. I don't have a lot of time on it with the actual Cyclone clutch setup, but it is better than the Aaen trail setup.
