When I rebuilt my 400 I just ran it pretty easy for about a tank with getting in and out of the throttle. Then on the second tank I let it warm up for about 20 minutes of riding and have been giving it hell ever since. No probs at all.

you will want to start it and let it idle for a couple of min several times then ride it and keep of the gas for a couple of tanks until it is brokin in all the way

No. Don't give it hell right out of the box. You want to let the rings seat properyl. Some people will even run the first tank of gas through w/a high oil mix. What you want to do is start it and let it idle for a few minutes. Turn off. Do it again. Then as you ride vary your rpms, not at full throttle. Then you second tank of gas you should be fine.
