Page 35 of the new Dirt Wheels Magazine (Letters Section):

Dear Dirt Wheels,
I have heard rumors, from a good source, that Polaris is coming out with a 700cc sport quad. Supposedly it's a twin cylinder four stroke. What do you guys know about this?

Our underground spies have informed us that Polaris does indeed have some interesting "what if" projects in the works. By next month we should have some clue as to which prototypes will actually reach production, either as a 2001 model or possibly 2002

Very interesting stuff. I wonder how much validity lies in the statement by Dirt Wheels? Thoughts anyone?

It's gonna happen, but so far the 700 is going into something similar to the Sportsman set-up.

dont be surprised if polaris does come out with a 700cc sport machine. there goal in sales is 2 billion by 2002 and u dont get there by haveing "bold new graphics" every year.
with sled and personal watercraft sales being down, atvs are where polaris makes there money and increasing market share.

a while back someone said there was no truth to the rumor that there was going to be a 700cc twin, well its reality and ther already building them in wisconsion.
i can see polaris using the 700 in the sportsman and a sport machine. the more engines u make the lower the cost of each one..

the big news will come out at the dealer show in Reno in September.

later

How much bigger will the engines get?

The engines in our quads are getting as big as those in the PWC & snowmobiles.

Chopper, the new 700 is a twin 4 stoke that weighs in at appx. the same as the SP\scrambler engines and it has lots, LOTS more HP\torque.
Sounds good to me, hopefully, it will be released in 2001. take care Polcat
