Default Trail Boss 330 -- Cold Starting

My new (2004) Trail Boss 330 is VERY cold sensitive. OK, I'm a newbie with ATVs but does it really take 3-5 minutes of choking and throttle jerking to warm up a Trail Boss before it runs well? Are all Polaris ATVs like this? Hell -- are ALL ATVs like this?

Anyone out there with a new Trail Boss that can shed some info on this. My 330 runs great once it warms up, but 3-5 minutes!!? Thanks.

BINGO. I had the same problem. MIne is under warrantee and the dealer upped the Pilot jet and main jet. also they moved the clip on the needle down one knotch so the jet opens quicker. Made a world of diff. and best of all it was free under warrentee. If yours is not let me know and I will reply with the jet sizes you need. Mine was TERRIBLE when cold and the dealer said they ALL were like that. Go figure EH?

My 2000 has always been that way. Just takes a little extra to warm up. But it doesn't get real cold that often here.

I just got my Trail Boss about 3 weeks ago and being here in Upstate NY I know exactly what your talking about.....I normally choke it 1/2 to 3/4 and let it run for a couple min's then drop the choke for another coupe min's and it's ready. Kind of a pain, but it's great once it warm, and the dealer also warned me about it before I bought it (seems like if they all know about it they would make a change :-/ ).

I live in Nova Scotia Canada and my 03 trail boss starts fine you have to let it warm up for about 5 mins but yesterday it was -43oC and it started right up. My brother tried to start his Artic Cat 500 and it wouldn't even start, we had to boost it.

Jay,
Yes, please let me know the jet sizes I need! Mine is a 2004 model, but I assume your 2003 would be the same as mine. Thanks...

Stock it comes with a 122.5 main and a 42.5 pilot. they changed it to a #50 pilot Part# 3131132 and a #135 main Part# 3130563. Move main needle clip down one knotch. Worked for me. I felt the main might be a tad to large so I put a K&N air filter on it and airbox inserts. . Was much better after that. I am adding a better exhaust and changing the clutch spring soon. should work very well... Good luck,

Jay

Horned, just remember, you 'll probably want to re-jet when it gets warm again.

WOW!!!
-43 Celsius is equal to -45 deg fahrenheit! That is WAY too cold to go for a ride!
