Honda street bikes. Then in the 90's I picked up a 93 vfr750. Today I own a Honda car, a Honda mower and a Honda generator - so what’s my point? Well when it came time to buy a new quad I went with the Polaris. Why? Because nothing else even came close! The pred has great suspension, incredible handling is built like a brick s--- house and still manages to feel very toss-able in tight trails. The Hondas well seemed, outdated (ex400), lacking in features (no starter on the 450r are ya freak’n kidding me!). So while it was hard to get to the mental point of not buying a Honda when it came right down to parting with my hard earned $$$ the Polaris had exactly what I was looking for at a fair price.
That is very well put!!

I am left to assume that Honda engineers never tried to load the 450r into a lifted truck on a slippery aluminum ramp - at these times I am so grateful to have an electric start as it saves me countless moments of frustration (having to roll back down to level ground kick the beast again and make another attempt). This Honda kick-starter oversight reminds me of the rims on my VFR – which looked great but were next to impossible to clean. Perhaps Honda engineers and team riders… need to get out from underneath the umbrella, and be forced to load/start/clean and live with their quad – one on one for awhile. Then I bet you would see such high tech amenities as electric start begin to appear on Honda quads and… oh, wait a minute my Honda mower is electric start.

actually I think honda might have put kick start on it because it can be more reliable than electric start

or it could be because they wanted to keep the price down so people would buy it.

I don't think electric start would raise the price 400 dollars

Not sure I agree on this point - electric start has been around for so long that I don’t think its reliability can be questioned (hell the mars rover has an electric start. I believe, the decision came down to a simple bullet point list with weight being a major factor in the eyes of the 450r marketing team. Engineering most likely didn’t argue against the decision to remove the starter assembly, since it removed another project from the "need todo before we ship" list. Procurement never argues against these types of decisions. Exec’s typically only have one concern, and that is to meet the volumes/dollars promised in their units yearly business plan, and with marketing on board most likely didn’t blink at the decision to reduce complexity, cut costs and get to market sooner. The bean counters most likely thorough a little party when they learned that another $25 per unit was coming back to their program as profit and at the recommendation of marketing (rare occurrence as marketing is always trying to spend more).
