Default 2003 Predator question

I have a 2003 Predator, and I (or it) has a hard time finding neutral, is there a significant update from Polaris to the 2004 gearbox? Has anybody else dealt with this issue yet? Let me know. Thanks

Default 2003 Predator question

I have the 2004 Predator, and I don't care what anyone says about polaris "fixing" the tranny for 2004, they didn't. It might be a little better, but it's not "fixed" yet. I have a terrible time finding neutral sometimes, and other times its easy. Maybe I'm just envious of my fiancee's DVX and how it shifts soooo smoothly, but it's aweful frustrating to sit there and try to find neutral for 2 minutes, while she's already shut her machine off and waiting for me. Like I said, the tranny might be a little better than the 2003 tranny, but it's definately not fixed.

well... the 04 trannys wont blow on ya (so they say)... thats what they ment by fixed... neutral was a pain to find on my 03 til it broke in... now its not all that hard. you need to lightly go up or down depending on what gear your in to hit neutral.

Be patient, after a bit of time, the trans will smoothen out.

Yeah, after a while it will go in easier. It will also go in easier with the machine off too.

I don't know if they changed the shift star shape on the shift drum or not on 2004, but I did read that the roller cam detent spring tension rate was changed to "help" find neutral.

Neutral is too slow a gear for me anyways, I like the other 5 gears better as you go alot faster than in neutral.......<grins>

I have 40+ hours on it so you would think it would be broke in by now. I have tried using just my hand to find neutral and it's just about the same, it's not that I'm not used to shifting, it just seems to advance past it. The only time I find it is when I'm racing someone and then I find it at about 8500 RPM!!! Oh well will call my Polaris dealer to see if they have any advice, I have heard using a different weight of oil can help, anyone heard this also?

I have never heard about the oil, but I have troubles ever once in a while finding nuetral while dragging too. I overcame it by making sure that I shift hard from first to second, because if I don't it will hit the rev limiter in neutral faster than ever. Mine is still hard to find nuetral too, but I am still going to give it time, and it isn't that big of an inconvience to me either.

I seem to agree. Yesterday I was out on the lake it was very wet&slushy, but my pred hooked up well due to the kold kutter ice screws. I have had the 03 and now the 04, I only have about 15 hrs on it and changed the oil&filter twice, and it seemed to shift a lot better before the 2nd oil change, my point is out on the lake it was terrible trying to find neutral all day, now Im wondering if Im going to have the same issues like I had with the 03, now that Im also seeing complaints
