The charging system on a pred is somewhat different from others due to the fact that it will not charge a dead or almost dead battery as other machines would, that is why when the battery is weak you usually have to charge them with an external battery charger

Well a basic charging system works like this(you have to know the basics first before you can understand the rest) There is something that makes the power in the first place, on cars an alternator on ATVs & small engines its a stator, from there the energy goes to a voltage regulator it does this--> (example: 40volts to 12volts) (regulator also converts electricity from AC to DC) thus controlling the output going to the various electrical devices...

When charging a Battery, the voltage regulator can detect the state of charge of the Batt and allows only so much voltage to go to the Battery depending on its state of charge..

On a car goes like this,,,, alternator to regulator to Batt and electrical devices...

ATV,,, Stator to regulator to Batt and...,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,^ ^^^^^^

They work the same way just one is bigger then the other... There is a little more to it but thats the basic concept....

No no no... You've got it all wrong, an "alienator" is what charges the batteries on a space ship.

Hope this clears things up

ok thanks guys. I was just checking, and trying to learn a little more about my quad. So basically if I ride it regularly, my battery shouldn't go dead. Thanks again Brad

One thing that's really nice about the Pred. is the stock stator has a 200 watt output. You can easily run some beefy baja lights, and still charge the battery.
