Hey Jeff, I don't get the concept of this "gas porting." Can you explain to me in dummy language how this works? Do you drill clear into where the ring sits? Sorry...I'm a little slow.

Yes blazer you drill into the ring land behind the ring from the top of the piston and the cyl. pressure helps force the ring outward and thats all there is to it. Just a way to get a little better ring seal.

Mudmaster I have not checked the wear yet. Still getting enough hours on it too make it a good test I have too put the same amount of hours on it as pre gas porting and then measure the bore, ring gap, and piston skirt. Then compare the wear amount to the pre porting specs. It won't be long now.
And if it's not to late I saw you other post and I have the HPD mid. pipe on mine (had to 2003) and love it the midrange is killer and the top is good to If you want bottom you'll have to set the clutch stall high. Got mine from RcR. By the way if you don't want it loud then tell rick to hold the silencer and get you a stock 400 one fits right on. You can have my Hpd MSA silencer for a deal if you want it I took it off after one ride and went with the 400 silencer.
Sorry for the slow replys been gone rideing came back and I'm 10 pages behind!!! Need wireless internet LOL.

Jeff

one more question. will the ports eventually get stopped up or filled with carbon and have to be opened back up?

A good quality oil running 40:1 will keep things down on build up. Remember that the piston ring wear will be more and the top end would need rebuilding sooner like that. More performance always means more maintenence.
