sometimes helps to put it in reverse and goose the gas and it'll pop right out!

Default stuck in reverse!

I had my sportsman do this last week, pull both linkages off at the shifter and then it will free up. What happens is that it tries to go rev. and low at the same time and jams up

Chris, same thing happened to me about 2 weeks ago. Like you said, take the linkage off at the shifter and it corrected the problem. Larry

Ahhh, don't ya love it. I had the same problem with my 03 about 3 times already in a year. It's a touchy adjustment, it has to be just right. Or at least thats how mine has been. Just keep turning on the linkage until she pops out, that should do it.

same deal here, unhook the linkage...you'll be able to fool with the pins to unjam it.......then get everything in its place and hook it back up....i carry the proper wrenches with me on the trail in case it happens again
my 04 400 sportsman had about 20 hours on it when this happened.....ever drive in reverse for 3 miles on the trails?????....its wild

Default stuck in reverse!

ok...i got it fixed!the box had no oil at all in it!!!supposed to come with oil in it from the factoryi took the whole shifter box of and took of the top it was dry!some one on anotehr web page said to check for oil....and it had none...guess they over looked it...whoops!so after i added some oil and jiggled it around for about 45 seconds it freed up ...put it all back together and it works no problem!
so now i got 2 10 mil. wrenches in the tool kit under the seat... i could only imagine driving that far in reverse kushman!if this ever happens again ill have it fixed in under 2 mins!so much for riding today ...but i did learn a little more about my machine!!
thanks for your help guys!

Kushman, the first time it happened to me my father in law was out riding in about 10 inches of snow. He had to drive backwards for about 3 miles with the reverse override button pressed because the snow was that deep! I think I finally have the adjustment perfect, though. And, by the way, he was my father in law before it happened. My marriage may have turned out differently had it been the other way around!
