Default C series rims

What is everyone's opinion the c series rims,I would like to get a set for my sportsman but don't really know if they would hold up well,as my machine is really used more for work than play.I haul firewood in the summer, plow snow in the winter, haul carrots in the fall and trail ride when I get chance(not alot of time with a 2 year old little girl)The main reason for considering different wheels is I have one that's bent and I can't see paying $130 for one of the factory chrome wheels which are less than great in my opinion. They rust if you look sideways at them and factory painted wheels cost more than the chrome one's.One last question can the c series be polished or are they clear coated?Thank's in advance,Bodean-- '02 500ho x sportsman many mods

You'll love the c-series on a Sportsman. I have a set on on a red 01 500, they finish the look more than stock rims. I've smacked into a few trees, dented one a little(no Leaks but sh.. happens in the woods.

I am tring to get longer lug bolts than stock because they only engage about 6 turns, I would prefer a few more threads. There's been all kinds of suggestions on how to do this but I figure something out or just make some longer bolts from 440 stainless and harden them up .

You cannot go wrong with c-series and mudlite. They take about 40 pounds off the machine at the same time. If you want a few picture, let me know and I'll send some along.

Bodean,
You have a couple-a-few choices on the ITP wheels. In my case, I have 2.5 sets of the C3 series (check out my pics) that I installed right off the get go on my 400 and my new 500HO. I also have some GBC Paddles mounted on 2 C3's. Your Sportsman will have just a little bit wider stance (almost 50 inches in the rear) because of the offset. The C3's I have are coated with a clear coat protectant, I'm not sure if they are available in the polished finish. Now, the ITP Type 5 and 6's are available. They are a more open, 4 spoke type pattern and the Type 5's are coated and the Type 6's are polished.

Back in the early eighties I was in the aftermarket automotive wheel industry. I was a manufacturers rep for CenterLine Racing and Keystone. One thing that you could figure was that Cast Aluminum wheels (like ITP's) were actually stronger than steel wheels with the difference being that if you exceeded that strength, a cast wheel would break and possibly disintegrate where a steel wheel would bend. Either way both would be useless. Forged aluminum is a different story and that is why CenterLine was so outstanding. A forged wheel is WAY STRONGER than cast AND steel and when they failed, they would just bend. I'm not sure if anyone is forging their aluminum ATV rims though....maybe Douglas?

At any rate, you would have to really hammer the sh*t out of your quad to bust an aluminum wheel so in my opinion, you'll likely never have an issue with a cast ITP wheel, if you did, my guess would be that wasn't the only thing you'de be replacing! Did I read your post correctly? $130 for ONE POLARIS WHEEL!!! I have two BRAND NEW sets of take offs from my 400 and 500 in boxes in my garage. I was toying with the idea of selling them on ebaY but I'm not sure if I should keep them. At that price...maybe I SHOULD sell them!!! Ay Carumba!!

I'll send you a Private Message on where I bought mine, they are WAY cheaper than most other places.

Hey Q Do you have C3's? If so, didn't you get the proper lug nuts? The nuts I have for mine are long, chrome nuts and work the way they're supposed to.

The C3 wheels have deep holes and the lug nuts that they use are about 1" long. I suppose the stock nut might hold fine but he long nuts are much easier.

When I got my C series I also got some longer chrome lugnuts with them. I got the 27x10x12 fronts on C rims and hat alot of rub problem both with the tie rod and fenders, so now they sit in the garage since I got the 7 with rawhides.

Yep, the 12x7 wheels make the stock 25x8x12 tires have sort of a flat sidewall and I considered going to a 25x10x12 instead but it looked to me like the 10" would rub on the strut. Given you went to a 27" I would have no idea what issues that would raise.

The ITP lug nuts that come with the c-series are fine, but the threaded section of the stud only engages about 1 diameter deep and as a "rule of thumb" maximun strength is gained at 1.5 thread diameters or 10 threads. If anyone knows where to get some please post it.

Junior is out playing in the mud with the 700 and his 589's. So far 2 warriors and 1 z400 out of the bog today. Good day for junior (by the way Junior is 6'3" and 265) so the 700 get's a workout. Rear springs set to the middle setting and it rides great.

Locking for studs 1/4 inch longer than stock!!

So Q, are you saying that the long chrome nuts that I have only have the small portion of thread? I honestly have never looked to see how far the threads go into the pillar portion of the elongated nut. I guess I'll have to pull one off and check. I suppose you could always buy a chromed "Pillar Nut" and use a washer with it, you would have to live with the fact that it would have the hole in the end exposed instead of the shiny chrome end.
