Default Catching air with Sportsman 500 or any engine size?

I have heard that catching air with a Sportsman is not wise due to the amount of travel on the rear end. It sounds really wrong, but I figured I would ask anyway. Something about it causing premature wear on the cv boots and joints.

I would like to know tha t too, I don't see how that would matter because the travel from jumping would be the same as that of going over a log or something.

Probably a few jumps (smallish) here and there won't hurt anything. But, the SP weighs A LOT. And all that weight on the A arms, bushings, as well as, everything else, would really scare me if you jumped it often. I think a foot of air or less is really no big deal. Once you get to maybe the 2 feet of air (or bigger), I would avoid doing that often. Just my 2 cents.

I jump my sportsman all the time. I have had it 6 feet in the air. It fly good. It is no sport quad, but it is still a worth jumper. I have many pics of my sportsman air bourne here in my photos. I have literally jumped it thousands of times. Love getting air.

Yikes, I didn't know a sportsman could get that high. I don't think I will be jumping mine anytime soon. Then I get nervous being on Ice skates. I hate not having total control of a situation at anytime. Apparently though jumping the sportsman is not to big a deal. Jay

How long have you owned your Sportsman?
Have you had to replace/repair anything?
Have you repaired/replaced anything that you would say was directly caused by jumpping?

For what it's worth, my dealer showed me how the bushings go south in a hurry from that kind of stress. I know they can handle it ok, but if I want 3 feet of air regulary, then I would get a Trailblazer, Scrambler, or Predator if I were to buy a Polaris.

I have 6500 miles on that sportsman 500. No, I have not replaced anything that I would consider related to jumping. Acually, it has been trouble free for the most part. I have only replaced what I would consider normal wear parts, brakes pads, tires, oil changes, etc. the only thing that I have chage that I would question as normal wear would be a shift linkage rod and a theromal sensor. It has been very dependable.
