questions about polaris clutch
#1
I just got my rcr stage 1 kit from Rick and I love it. But I do have one question. what do the different springs do for you. What I mean is. some places that sell you a clutch kit you get the primary and a secondary spring. Some places you can get those springs and then also clutch weights. So what exactly does the primary spring do for you ? and what does the secondary spring do for you?
Thanks

Complicated question! The primary spring is mainly engagment speed and shift rate.Secondary is backshift and belt efficancy.Wieghts are for shift rate and engagment. They all work together but it can get deep explaining it.I had to get some books on CVTs to get a grasp of the whole thing and still dont have it mastered like some of the guys on here.

Check my pics, it'll give you an idea of how the primary works....or you can take your cover off and watch it....that's what made it click for me.
The secondary is still a mystery to me but I think I have a decent idea on the primary

Drive springs will affect your initial engagement the most. If you want more SNAP go with a heavier spring, and your engagement rpm will increase. A lighter spring and you lower the engagement closer to idle speed.
Your secondary springs affect the rpm range that the bike will start to shift into a taller gear

I do belive the secondary is how much tension the belt has...if you go to the kawi forum and do a search on it there is ALOT of descussion on the primary and secondary clutch springs

For the REAL concept on a CVT spend $20 and get Aaen's "clutch tuning handbook"
