Hi guy's. If you have done the overide like i have, you should have both wires to the overide switch disconnected from everything. One of the wires should be hooked to key on voltage. The other wire coming from the switch will go to the relay. On most relays there arfe 4 or 5 terminals, for this application you will use 4 of them. On the relay you have a signal side and the power side. The signal side will get one wire from the overide switch and the other side will go to ground. On the power side get a wire from the battery to the relay then from the relay to the horn. I do this because i run dual horn. If someone needs a schematic please say so and i will try and find one. Well, I have 1 12V horn hooked up and am using the power from the override button for the horn. It works great so far, but do you think it will burn out the switch

 

I just loaded a picture into my profile of a basic relay. # 30 would go to ground. # 87 would be the switched power from the overide switch. # 85 comes from the battery and # 88 would go out to the horn or horns. Hope this helps

I know literally dozens of people using the override button for the horn with no relay. Nobody has burnt out a switch yet and this goes back 10 years. I wouldn't recommend using a air horn though as the amperage may fry the switch in this application and a relay would be the safest way to go.

 

Kool. I think I will just keep it as it is. Unless I run into problems down the road

 

Your probally right if you are using only one horn, but i run dual horns. If it works don't mess with it.

 

which wire do you cut and use on the override?

 

The purple wire is the one that I used for the power to the horn. I has power when the ignition is on and the override button is pushed in

 

WAIT!!!! Before you guys go hooking a horn up to the purple wire. I ran into a problem. It turns out that the purple wire is ALSO for the reverse light. SOOOO, when you put it in reverse, the horn will go off. I am going to have to look at this agian and see if there is a way to get around it.
