Were you working the override button? - Polaris won't let the AWD work in reverse unless the override button is pressed

Hey also my fan did not come on today....It was almost 80 out. I do use engine ice...it says it will keep the engine cooler by 50 degrees. What do you guys think? I don't want this thing to over heat. If I have to I will put a switch on it, and turn it on when I ride.

Probably "bypassing" the override button just meant he disconnected the black wire from the reverse limiter, and the override button may still function for AWD like it should - I don't have a diagram of the '99 Scrambler, but on the older models, when the override button is pushed, the button opens a connection to the reverse limiter, and makes a connection to complete power to the AWD switch.

YOu will not have the 4wd in reverse simply by unplugginh the reverse override button. There is a little of work that needs to be done for the 4wd to work in reverse. This is on ly 2000 scram but it should be the same for you. Look at your reverse override button. You want the grey wire with a white stripe and a red wire with a white stripe. Follow them down in the nose piece. Take a little bit of the insulation off of each one and splice a wire between both of them and solder it in. Now tape them up good an you have 4x4 and no revlimiter when in reverse

Default 4X4 Will not work in reverse

Hey wait, I did the reverse override by:

Cutting the gray w/orange wire from yellow button (sealed both ends)
Cutting the purple wire from yellow button (sealed both ends)
Cutting the gray w/ white wire and connecting its non-button side to the red w/ white wire (sealed the button side of gray w/ white)

I am having problems at 3/4 to 7/8 throttle in forward gear right now - almost feels like I have a rev limit on the forward side. My first thought was a carb issue.

Could I have done something with the above wire job?

My reverse override works great. I'll confirm that I have 4x4 as well in reverse. I know that all of the lights function properly as well (no "R" light while in Forward, but lit when in reverse)

Please let me know if this sounds right.

'99 is where they changed the ball game, and a "little black box" reverse limiter is no longer there.

BBS's method is basically the same as Dave's, just a little less involved. The Grey/white wire is the power supply side of the AWD switch and by splicing into it with the Red/white wire is just giving it power from the ignition switch rather than being routed through the tranny switches
