help with basics of my new scrambler!
#1
I got a new 2004 scrambler 500 HO 4stroke 6 weeks ago and was wondering if there is any advice or important info for adjusting it or simple mods for performance. I have some questions too.
I know its 570 some lbs but I like to jump and when I did( about 3 feet) it felt like it bottomed out? Is there a limmit to how high I can jump with a stock suspension? (I am 195 lbs)
I can't find any info on adjusting the rear shock(or front) for weight of driver or type of trail. Should I just leave it where it is?
Are new pipes alot louder or not?
My first upgrade will be a K&N filter and then after the warranty is up maybe a clutch kit. Is there any other small upgrades($50 or less) I should do first?
I live in Illinois just south of joliet. Any riders from this area?
Thanks in advanced for any help!!!

all you need to adjust the rear shock is a spanner wrench or a big pair of pliers and a rag so you don't scratch the adjuster. If you are bottoming it out at a 3 foot jump it needs to go alot higher, probably a couple of clicks! Why are you waiting for the K&N?? It won't void the warrenty so go for it! My dealer recomends these instead of a stocker after brake in.
I have a White bros. pipe and it is alot louder than the stock one. and you will probably need to rejet it. Another great upgrade is a clutch kit but you might want to get a clutch and pipe matched to each other.
Also, purepolaris sells the same shock as an aftermarket item that came on the earlier scrammys for your bike. it has an external resevoir and a better adjustment unit. I also jump mine, and I am alot bigger that 195# and it handles them just fine

www.hotseatperformance.com sell pipe and clutch kits and so does www.hpd-inc.com . i reccomend the hotseats performance kit that comes with pipe, clutch kit, and k&n filter. My buddy runs it and its great.

If you want to wait on the clutch kit, just put in a Polaris white primary spring for now. It shouldnt void your warrenty (check with your dealer first). Also, if you like to jump, I highly suggest a chain tensionor from HPD or Hot Seat. Also, when you get the K&N, also get an Outerweras with it. Rocky MT has the best prices on the K&N's

The most bang for your $$$$ would be to install a white Polaris primary spring.$20 and it will liven the thing up.Then save the bucks for a good roller secondary and a pipe.4strtokes arent as important to clutch to THE pipe as a 2stroke but more so to clutch to YOUR needs.Call RcR and ask about what he recomends for pipe and clutching.I called him and told him what I wanted out of mine and he hit it on the nose with just a spring change. When you go for a pipe check out all the options like which pipe does the most for your type of ridding. Hey BBS my next investment is going to be 2 HPD chain tensioners for both bikes.

Thanks for the link!
and the new info(looks like a white spring is in the near future)!
Rockymt has K&N filters but not for the 2004 scrambler! Are they the same as the 03 and they just havent updated the site?
