Default Thinking about removing the 4X4

I would like to know how hard it would be, and what I need to do to remove the 4 wheel drive? Once I remove it, could I put it back on later. What would I gain if I did this. Could I see a difference in the hp. I want it lighter.

I have a buddy that has a 2x4 scrambler....he used to smoke me until I did my mods. Then that changed quick. That has to be slowing me down alot. I would just like to know how hard it is to do....and if I could put it back on.

Don't let the hp numbers fool you. Its all in how you get it to the ground. Clutching clutching clutching!

Why not just go on a diet and lose a few puonds; and leave the 4x4 on.Tthat would be easier and get the same affect.

Thinking of doing this my self. I would think that you would gain some HP, by less rotating mass and the weight reduction. I would like to make it so I could reinstall it if I wanted. I love the 4x4 for the loose stuff, but often wish that it were faster.

The hubs would be the difficult part. I wonder if you could just disconnect at the universal and leave the other half(the hub 1/2) intact. Everything else would easily be removed.

My race mod scrammy was a 4x4. I pulled the front diff, drive shaft, L&R cv shafts and ball bearing assembly from cv joints. Then went into tranny and removed front output shaft and all that drives it. Then I made a plate to cover and seal the hole.

buy new front hubs and transmission and ur set. If not just cut the front driveline out rightoutside the transmission and remove the front transfercase. Then remove anything that you can cut out and try to get it at 400 lbs. I have seen a scrambler at 380 pounds before.

I don't realy want to do any cutting if I don't have too. All my buddies say it's fast enough....and it is BUT it's just to heavy. It nose dives when I jump. So are they any way to take this 4x4 off with out cutting anything?

Whitedog, was it hard to make that plate, and did you have to get new hubs or just remove every thing in them?

All the shafts just pull rite out. The front ones have a roll pin in the diff shafts. No need to cut anything. You cud leave the trany output shaft there in case yuo wanna putit back.
