Anyone riding a diesel??? Is the noise and vibration unbearable. Any thoughts or comments appreciated.

Well I like to give my opinions alot so here it goes...I think the diesel engines have alot of power wich they do. I don't think i'd ever buy a diesel engine ATV...it would be awsome to pull hevy things. Does it sound similar to diesel trucks?

My take on the diesel is this. Of course it will have good pulling power, but the quad itself will be limited in pulling by its light weight as compared to a tractor. Basically, you could hook it up to something heavy and sit there with the tires spinning. The diesel has the power to pull stuff, but the thing isn't heavy enough to move major heavy things such as pulling huge logs and stuff like that. In that sense, the gasoline sportsman has the power to do the same thing. That basically kills the power advantage the diesel would have. On top of all that, the regular 500 is faster, quieter, and more fun to ride.

This is just my take. I have been hammered here for not liking the diesel, but I just don't think its practical. Give me the regular sportsman any day.

I've responded on this topic before.I agree with Andy. The gasoline 500cc Sportsman will do anything the Diesel will, and when your done working with it,you can hit the trails for some fun.Try keeping up with your buddies on the Diesel?Diesel, just not practical for a quad.=====Bill

I think they put a diesel engine on a Sportsman for exactly the same reason Land Rover put a diesel engine on their Series II back in the 50s - inconvenience of the isolated farms that use diesel to power every piece of equipment to go out and buy gas just for the ATV. The big farms don't go out and buy diesel at the pump, they have it delivered. Why should they buy an ATV for the minor tasks if they have to get gas specially for it? I think the diesel fills this market niche, nothing more.

Just my 2c.
