Scrambler 500 or Vinson 500 for trail riding?
#1
My brother-in-law is looking to purchase a 500cc quad for the trails. He will mostly ride trails encountering rocks and mud and also wants to add a plow for some winter snow removal. He's narrowed it down between the scrambler 500 4x4 or the suzuki vinson 500 4x4. Can anyone with experience between the two tell me the pros and cons of both. Thanks for your opinions!!!

IMO, the Scrambler would be better on the trails with its lower center of gravity and in the mud with the true 4wd Vs the limited slip of the Vinson. I think that the Vinson would be better for plowing though (with the manual transmisson)

Depends on what kind of mud he will be taking it through. I dated a girl one time whose family owned 6 Polaris quads: 2- 500 H.O.'s, 2 -Scrambler 500's, 2- smaller ones, like 300's, all 4x4. The Scrambler was a lot of fun to ride until you got into mud, and we were always pulling those things out. The 300's would go lots of places the Scramblers wouldn't. I would think that the mud, rocks, and plowing combination would definitely work better with the Vinson. Haven't ridden one, but it has to be better than my Eiger, and it is a lot of fun to ride, and has plenty of clearance. The limited slip works very well, also. Unless you really wedge a front tire against something, both fronts will be pulling anyway. If you do wedge one, just tap the front brake, and the other one will spin. Did they change the Scrambler to have a locked front end when engaged? It has been several years ago, but it seems like the ones I rode had a limited slip differential when engaged, but maybe not. This was back in '99 or '00.

I agree, the Sportsman 500 H.O. is an awesome machine, but what type of price are we talking? I think the Scram retails at 5999, and the Vinson at 6299, but you could probably get either for several hundred less than that.
