I have just fitted a HPD pipe and clutch kit (don't talk to me about the poor fit of the pipe), and have a K&N filter, but am having trouble jetting it correctly. I have kept the 35 Pilot Jet, changed to a 260 main jet, and the badly photocopied instructions that came with the pipe say to use a 6CEY6 needle in the middle position. I have asked at local dealers, and asked the local agent of the Mikuni carbs for this neelde, but that have never heard of it. The stock one is a 6F9, and I am having trouble getting the jetting just right. Usual story, good down low, to rich down low, to lean up top. I tried a 30 Pilot Jet, to clean up low RPM, but still not right.

Any help would be great. The rush of the 400 when it gets on the pipe, but i fear that as it is running lean, the rush might not last!

Doesn't the pipe come with all the necessary jets? I hope so because my dealer is installing mine tomorrow morning! Which pipe did you get?

what year quad...what altitude are you riding....what temp range.....
you might want a new polaris dealer because the 6CEY6(POLARIS # 3130476) is the stock needle on newer sport 400's and scrambler 400's I think 98 and up,if I remember the 97 400's used a 6CE6.
What was the problem with the fit of your pipe I have installed 3 HPD pipes and all of them fit like a glove and ran flawless
By the way on my 99 sport when I just had a stock eng. w/pipe and clutch kit I was running a 250 mainjet a 30 pilotjet and 6CEY6 on the #3 clip position, at 2000 feet alt. and 95deg+ temps and it ran great

The HPD pipe I bought fit great, with no problems at all. I had to deburr the bolt holes on the exhaust pipe to cylinder adapter, but that took about 30 seconds with a rat tail file.
I'm running a 250 main, the needle 1 notch lean from center, and a 30 pilot jet. The plug is still black, running 80 to 90 deg. F, at near sea level.

Hey Joka -- Why, oh why, would you ask this forum to solve your problem. Why not call HPD direct and get an answer. They do have a phone. There is a lot of bogus info here. Call HPD.

I guess the joke is on you, huh Joka!

Jack

It might be easy if you live in the USA, but if you live in New Zealand, in a different time zone, and different day even, it is not so easy.

I appreciate any help given.

Xplor

The kit came with a 260MJ and a 30PJ. I have changed to the 260MJ, but gone back to the 35PJ that is stock.

The Needle is the one that needs replacing on the 96 Scramblers.

Azelmo

Most of my running is at sea level, temp at about 15-20 deg C (metric temp).

The pipe I got for my 96 400 was a poor fit. I had to file out the holes for the head adpator, modify the springs that hold it on, modify the mount for the little rubber stopper that rests against the top frame rail, and it still rests on the gear selector stick. Poor fit in my book.

Well I have got one.

I had to have the needle flown in from Australia.

I will let you know how I get on, but I will probally have to redo it soon when I get my GP Cool Head.

Also I have just had some custom tie rods made with decent rod ends. The rod ends will last a lot longer, and then only cost $9.00 to replace.
