Default sp 700 not charging .... help

my fathers 03 sp700 is not charging. the batt. light flashed a while, when he stopped and tried to start it later it wouldn't. when he got home he checked and it was not charging. he does not ride through water or aggressive. just went spring gobbler hunting and was upset when he got back.

Check the negative terminal on the battery. Possibly could have gotten a defective battery. Possibly bad stator. How do you know its not charging? Did you check it with a meter?

What all has he checked? Is the battery OK - or will it even accept a charge? Has he looked for a bad connection somewhere?

Well, if everything looks ok, and there is NO charge from the stator, then you are probably talking about the stator or regulator.

The connector for the voltage reg is up by the radiator under the hood, kind of a pita to get at but my guess is the harness plug is disconnected. Give it a look.

I have that at home and will try to post that tonight if I can get some free time. I think you pretty much have shown it to be the stator though. If you are not getting a charge from the positive battery terminal to the battery then you either have a wire disconnected somewhere or a bumb stator. If you checked for any loose wires or bad connections and know that the voltage regulator is working ok, then it probably will need a new stator. As soon as I get a chance, I will post the details.
