Default 2000 Scranbler 400 2x4

Well, I think I've finally found the one. A 400 Scrambler with Boysen Reeds, K&N Filter and Prefilter, and DG Exhaust. They guy said he just put a new clutch in it and changed the transmission fluid. Both me and my brother drove it and both noticed that when you barely give it gas it doesn't want to move. I've talked to another guy who said he's ridden one and it did the same thing, so hopefully it's not something going out, if it is Please tell me what it could be. For the ATV and a set of paddles, the guy wants $3100. Let me know what you all think.

Thanks,
Rodney

THis is NORMAL!!!! This isn't like a gear shift auto. It is like a snowmobile, in fact it is the same clutch. If he did do some clutch mods, then more than likely it has a stall in it to engage at a higher RPM. that seems like a good price for a 2000 + the bonus of the mods. The clutch on these things are very tunable, but they are a trick. there are many people here that can help with that!!! The 400 is a very good choice. I raced a 2x4 this past weekend that was smoking banshees and just about everything that had only about 500 bucks of mods into it, with the stock clutching....

Don't let the hp numbers fool you. Its all in how you get it to the ground. Clutching clutching clutching!

If it has the DG pipe on it get the stock pipe too. Then get rid of the DG and go with a pipe from a manufacturer that deals with only Polaris and you can get this quad to where it is the fastest around. And yes aa moddified clutch will engage at a higher RPM the stock so it is normal.

I might add that even a stock clutch will not engage if you just give a lil bit of gas. This is completly normal...

ftwflh is right about the pipe. Although, I have a DG silencer on a HotSeat pipe, this set up is optimal. But if it is a DG pipe, ditch it!!! Still with a little bit of money, these things scream, and it is one of the best trail bikes you can find... Drag racers are finding this out quikly!!! Fastest quad in the world, is a Polaris, last I saw it was 140+ in the 1/4!!! But this was not the stock 400 motor, it is just a point. Even looking at alot of the race results, polaris does very well, very well indeed!!!

I just got home from talking to my bank and sometime Monday I will have a Scrambler sitting in my driveway. I'd rather have it for the weekend but the guy I'm getting it from is out of town . Thanks everyone for helping me decide on what to get and from the sounds of it I should be very happy with it.
Thanks again,
Rodney
