I SOLVED THIS PROBLEM, SO READ MY 3RD POST DOWN
well, heres my problem. I have seriously messed up my 4x4 system. First of all, i got new shock bushings this morning, and just went outside to change them. I took of the nut that holds to shock on, and then the washer, gasket, so on. I then wanted to see if anything else was worn, so i jacked up the quad so i could take the end of the shock out of the frame and take a look at it. bad idea! well, faster than i could stop it, the shock AND strut swung bacwards so it was paralell with the ground. the A-Arm dropped down, so it had like a 70 degree angle to the ground. the tire was bent in at the bottom quite severely, so the top of the tire was slanting out, it looked like this: \ instead of this: | . well, after some scrambling around, i finally, with hard work, got the top of the shock back into the frame, and lowered it down. I got on the quad, and tryed to turn the handlebars. WOULDNT BUDGE, left or right. BUT, when i tryed to turn the bars, the back chain would tension and untension, so the problem is in the 4x4 system, because it was moving the chain. So, i jacked it back up off the floor. I know that when it is in the air, you can turn the back tires and the front differentials aslo turn the front tires. So, i tryed this to see if the front would spin. Well, if i spin the tires forward, it turns the handlebars AND tires to the left, if i spin the back tires in reverse, the fronts turn right. While i was spinning them forward, i kept going until it was maxxed out, turned all the way to the left. I watched the front drive shaft, and once it was all the way left, it was slipping. the tire was all the way turned, so it stopped, but the shaft kept turning. in the beginning when the shock fell out of the frame, there was a TREMENDOUS amount of weight and force on the CV joints, driveshaft, ect. this was my LEFT tire that this happened to. i think i at least damaged the LEFT FRONT 4wd system. COULD SOMEBODY PLEASE help me figure this out, i fear that i just made an EXPENSIVE mistake. thanks ALOT for any help! I don't know DG, I have never had the front end apart. Do you have a shop manual if not you need to get one. Someone will come along with a better answer then to take off the 4x4. If your like me you wouldn't leave home without it.

I can tell you. There is a spring clip on the end of the shaft that came out of the CV's race. You will have to compress it and re-insert it in the race. Kinda like putting a piston in a cylinder with one ring to compress. Nasty job, but not too hard. The little clip that you compress is what holds it in and sometimes if you pull hard enough, it will pop out.

Thanks NascarFan. So i believe that my clip fell off, because it is not on the end of the shaft. so, i have to fish around inside the strut where the shaft goes until i find it?
