Problem with scrambler 500 idle
#1
I have a problem with my 2000 scrambler 500. The idle is way too high when I start it up. So high it really doesn’t sound good when I try to put in gear. I have to start the machine in gear in able to get anywhere. After driving for a bit the idle goes down, way down, almost to low. My choke doesn’t seem to have any effect on idle, is there a connection? Could my choke be stuck in “on” position?
I’ll be thankful for any help.

I would just check your choke cable that goes to the carb...make sure its all good there....Your pilot jet in your carb is for your idle....Has it always been like this or has it just started acting up recently???

Thanks for the tip. I took the choke cable out of the carb, the choke was stuck in open position. I fixed that, but now it idles high all the time. I guess whoever adjusted the idle did it with the choke stuck. I was looking for an idle adjust screw. A dealer told me it was pointing down from the carb on the left hand side. And that I could adjust it with my fingers. I didn’t find it, but I found a screw on the right side of the carb. It’s almost impossible to reach. It has a spring on it. Is this the one? How am I supposed to adjust that one without removing the gas tank?
Thanks for any tip on how to fix it.

There is a cable with a small **** on it that comes off the carb and the **** is located just above the CVT cover. That is where you adjust the idle on the carb itself. Other than that, you can adjust it at the throttle.
