Default Put Cone Filter On 04' Pred 500....yes or no?

Would there be any positives/negatives to attaching a cone filter to replace my stock air box? The quad is bone stock right now, i heard a guy with one on a stock 03' predator and it sounded good, i never did get to talk to him really, so i didnt get to ask if it was better or not.

I've also heard its not good from a few people so give to me straight here.

If your going to attach it to the end of the carb boot = yes

If your going to attach it straight to the carb itself = no

Do some searching on here and you'll find that the clamp on filters actually LOSE horsepower.....

I have a twin air filter clamped on to my carb, replacing the big crappy airbox. so much easier this way and easier to take care of. you hhave to rejet and do some things to the carb to get it running right and i actually gained around 1 mph.

Ok

Clamp on filters right to the end of the carb bad idea, you will lose power however, if you have someone like Doug Nicholas do a few simple carb mods you will make more power.

The twin air clamp on can go either way, i don't think you will gain or lose much thats WITHOUT carb mods. twin air filters don't flow as much as K&Ns etc do hence more vacuum to keep the slide up.

The problem with a clamp on filter on a vacuum slide carb is this, normally The slide will open all the way at full throttle (not the "butter fly" this is different) some jumps can actually cause this slide to close for a sec or so, its there to equal out flow in the carb works well in stock form when modding you must mod the carb or replace it with an aftermarket one.

The filter on the end of the intake tube works fine and makes power, you can make your own or get one from Rath Racing IMO you can make one just as good if not better for less your self.
