Default CLUTCH PROBLEMS!!!!!!

Happy 4th of July everyone!!!!!

I was riding at a friends yesterday. We were riding pretty hard all day long. At the end of the day we figured we would take one more lap then head home. I got half way around and tryed to climb a hill and had NOTHING! I smelled the belt burning. There was no water there so I know that couldn't have been the problem. It just seemed to overheat. I know there are no obstructions on the intake or the exhust ports for the case. I took the cover off and the secondary clutch. I found the ramp buttons that the helix ride on are GONE!!!!!! Also the tips of the helix are a little chewed up. My question is..........with a bike that has I would guess 40 hrs tops on it. Is this normal? I have the H.S.P. speed kit on it. Is this too much for the stock setup? Should I consider a roller secondary? Money is tight nowadays so I would like to avoid that for now. Is there an adjustment of some kind I can make? Any help is always apreciated.

Clutch kits with a higher engagement CAN wear out your buttons in the secondary a lot faster then normal. Should it have happend that fast, NO. I would give Hot Seat a call and see what they say about that. But, you have a few options. One would be replace it with new stock plastic buttons. That would be the cheapest route. The other way would be to replace the buttons with the HPD aluminum buttons. I put those in when I purchased my clutch kit and they still look good. Another option if you want to got with a roller setup but for less $$$ is the Aaen roller clutch conversion. It pretty much converts your stock secondary clutch to a roller clutch. But the obvious best solution would be the TEAM roller clutch from HPD. Thats a good penny for that though

Too much secondary preload could cause that to happen. Did Hotseat send a spring and tell you where to set it? We have been running my wife's scrammy with the good secondary spring and a medium engagement primary spring for 2 years and her's is still doing fine. Did you only preload the secondary 1/3 turn CC when you assembled it?

Thanks for the input. I did not preload the spring and I realized that afterwards. They did send a new secondary spring (grey) and I set it back to the 1-1 position like it was stock. I emaild Hotseat and they replyed saying that the way I put it back was fine nothing was mentioned about preloading. Did they feed me a line of crap? This really bothers me I will ahve to get back on the horn with them. Thanks................any more input is appreciated

Nope never said a word. What exactly does that do? Will it help the performance at all? Is this the cause of my malfunction? The bike seemed to ride ok.

LOL Thanks

Geeze, if they never told you to preload the clutch, then it could cause that problem. Did it feel slugish in the midrange at all?

I couldn't really tell for sure, I did notice that it didn't seem to come out of a corner real hard. Also I still had to power brake it in order to do a wheelie. This is my first belt drive and i'm still "feeling" it out. In your experience should this thing pull harder?

Yes, it should. What spring did they send you? Do you know approx. what RPMs the clutch engages at? I have the HPD brown primary sprinf with 58g weights (engages at approx. 2200rpm) and a HPD violet seconday spring set on the 2-2 position. The 2-2 seems to work out the best in the trails. Also, you do need to winf the secondary 1/3 turn counter clockwise to get the proper tension of the spring. I bet once you replace those buttons and get the secondary set up right, you will be a lot happier. Mine will wheelie real easy from a dead stop.
