I had a 2000 MAgnum 4 x 4, then a 2004, now I have a 2004 Outlander 330 4 x 4. The Sportman is a great machine but its getting old. It was a great quad in 2000 but the Outlander is coming out with better newer technology. Better brakes, rear suspension, better frame, 400w alternator and a Rotax powerplant, my 330 will run 52-53mph. This is not a Sportsman bash, but the next generation will be a much better machine. Polaris made the same mistake with their snowmoblies and they let the market slip away, they are about to do the same with ATVS. Bombardier makes great PWC's, sleds and now ATV,s.

A 400 Outlander will run right with a 500 Sportsman, but definetly handles better. The lighter weight of the Outlander makes it more fun to ride, along with the lower center of gravity. It feels a little like a sport quad compared to the heavier SP-500. I like the looks a lot. I really like the Max, only 6" longer than the regular Outlander, it doesn't have the limo feel of the Quest Max, or the ATP for that matter.
The Sportsman 500 has more torque off the line than the Outlander, or the SP 600 or 700. For pure putting around the SP-500 is still the king, but if you like to kick it the Outlander has a fun factor that beats all the Sportsmans. Well, maybe not the 700 EFI, that is a fun beast.
Polaris is coming out with some serious new stuff. I am hoping for a serious contender in the middle weight class, which is where Polaris has been lacking since the demise of the 400 two strokes.
Hey, I am going to the Polaris Party.....Anybody else???????

My buddy has an 04 Outlander and it is very fast and has a good suspension, handles good in the twisties, but compared to the Sportsman falls short in many other areas, ground clearance, braking, mudding, and over all traction(Rawhides could be an advantage) The Outlander has had issues too, clutches, brakes, charging problems, crank seal, compared to the Sportsman(replaced battery) This is my first quad and I'm glad I picked the Sportsman but as for snowmobiles Ski Doo is so far ahead of everybody with the Rev platform they can't be touched..........
