Sportsman 700EFI Transmission Noise
#1
I have had my SP700 EFI for about two months now. It has around 22 hours on it. Since it was brand new, I have had transmission noise. This usually happens at lower speeds when you are easing off the gas. It sould like gear clash. I was told by my dealer that most of the Sportsman models have this noise and that bigger bikes tend to be worse. It does not seem to affect the performance of the bike. Is anyone else experiencing similar problems? Does it get worse? Thanks for your input.

Its true. They all make noises. When you let off the gas and hit again there will be this clunking noise. I sounds aweful but its normal for a Polaris. I have a sp 500 ho and it sounds like it will come apart anytime, but the dealer says its normal. I would think Polaris would fix all the noises since soooooooo many people complain about it!?!?!?!? I just tore mine apart 2 days ago.. The secondary clutch has about half inch of free play. The sound is actually the clutch taking up the slack upon acceleration and deceleration These 700's use a different clutch than the other models. I have access to a full machine shop. Im going to tear mine down and design a fix for it. Not only is the noise annoying but also isnt that good for the transmission shock loading the gears all the time. As soon as I have a rock solid fix for it I will let everyone know and see if anyone else wants one.

You should fit fine on the new 05 Predator. Check out the new Troy Lee edition with the closer gear ratios. They made the gear ratios tighter for gears 1-4, great when on the trails or on the track coming out of corners. They also put in a ratchet style shifter, much improved from the 03 and 04 models. Reverse also a plus and raised the handlebars 1" i think.
You can always adjust the shocks to fit your weight also.
I'd go for the Predator

Yup your gonna get some drivetrain noise out of your sp700..... the way the polaris is designed its gonna be just fine but you will hear the noise its a combined amount of slack in the drivelines that lead to the differentials and the diffs themselves. Sucks that they make noise like that but its just the way they are.

I just bought two 2004 700 EFI's a week ago. the clutch/trans noise is the first thing I noticed about the quads that I did not like. the one my wife picked to be "hers" runs fine with the exception of the noise and a front rack area vibration noise. Mine on the other hand stalled on me the first day I had it and the second day I rode it it stalled three times but always started right back up. the third time/day riding the quad it died on me out in the middle of the woods and would not start back up. come to find out the fuel pump quit working and the dealer had to order the whole gas tank to replace the pump. this is the only other major problem I have heard or found with the EFI's other than the clutch noise.

Silverbullet i wouldnt be tooo concerned about the stalling unless it persists most brand new bikes are gonna stall on ya wether its efi or not , every new bike i have bought has done that and a few backfires to go in with the stalls but it will work itself out if it doesnt then you might have a prob...good luck

hey bomber x- did you read my whole post. the third day having the quad the fuel pump quit working and the quad died on me in the middle of the woods. the dealer had to order a whole gas tank assmy. to correct the problem, I was suppose to get it back yesterday but I guess it will be today. anytime a new machine stalls or makes noises or has issues I recommend staying around the house in the yard to try to get it to happen. in my case I had to tow the SOB home and then the dealer wouldn't even pick it up for me. I had to push the f*cker into the back of my Dodge Ram. I am getting a hold of polaris to see what they can do for me for my time, hassle and inconvenience.
