Snorkel For SP500 (where is gregsims?)
#3
Here are some pictures. The close ups of the tranmission snorkel should be sufficient help. The air box snorkel set up depends on what year you have. Let me know if you need more help.

Greg,
Thank you for the pics. I just purchased a 00 SP500 and I do quite a lot of water riding in a place called Spring Creek in Houston. I would love to get all the specs on your snork. system. That is one bad motha!!!!! I am not to mechanically inclined so if you could be very precise when telling me how to water proof this bad boy I would really appreciate it. Also what is the top speed of your machine?

I am from Lindale Texas just 15 minutes out of Tyler. The intake for your transmission uses 1.5"PVC. The exhaust uses 2" PVC and the air intake will take 2" also. You can buy the Black schedule 80 at Lowes. I would put quick connects at the lowest part of the snorkel incase you do get in water so deep it flips you over. This way it is easy to drain the snorkels.
By the way, my 98SP500 had to have 1.5" air intake and the 2000 needs 2". However, that may not be due to differences in year model. Some bikes just need more air. I would go with the 2" and if it runs too lean put a cap on the end with a 1.5 inch hole and make the whole bigger if necessary. You are only 2.5-3 hours from fun wheeler, you should try to make the ambucs ride sept22-24. Last time there were 1700 atvs. Plenty of Honda Spankin going on. Ha!

Greg,
Why when I ride in water up to my belt breather does my bike stall out? Is that normal? Also would it be good enough if I just ran some heavy duty tubing up to the top of my gas tank but under the plastics? Would that effect the way that the bike runs? When you tighten up your belt box cover do the two parts allign up perfecly? I am not really happy with the machine so far because it runs like crap in the water!! I tried your setup but I could not get it to line up right. I will try more later. Thanks for all the info.

Wildman, Do not be disgruntled with you machine. The problem you are having is common with almost all ATVs at least after they are few months old.
Plug your drain line to your carb before riding and unplug before you load it to go home. It will swim like a fish as long as you don't suck water in the airbox. Almost all carbs have faulty checkvalves in the overflow needle which drains out the drain line for the carb. When you get in water above that, the water flows directly into the carb.
If we ever get a chance to ride together, you owe me lunch for that tip. Ha!
