Close ratio tranny question?
#1
What are the advantages to a close ratio tranny? Will it be good for trail riding, or just for racing? I have a 05 TLD on order, but I want to make sure I will be happy with the tranny.

I would think a close ratio would be better overall. If just for racing a taller gear might be better to keep the load on the motor through the gears, but for woods riding it will be much more fun and less shifting needed.

I just saw wayout's post. I was thinking a lower ratio would mean he wouldnt have to downshift as much, but if he is a fast woods rider there might be a little more there as well.

I plan on racing GNCC with it. So there will be slow sections and fast. So will I be just shifting all the time, or will I be able to stay in a higher gear longer, so less shifting. I don't want to buy it if all I do is shift.

i dont think there is going to be that much difference in the close ratio tranny as compared to the standard but i could be wrong. It just seems like some people think the close ratio tranny will make it a totally different bike which i dont but again i could be completely wrong.
