According to the website, the close ratio tranny is only in the TLD.

A short shift implies that the throw, or the length of the shifting rod has been shortened. This simply reduces the travel required to engage the shifting forks in order to shift into a higher gear. Polaris would actually need to put taller or shorter gearing in the transmission in order to change the gearing in the tranny....in other words the number of teeth in say forth gear would be different for the TLD than for the standard Pred....if the difference is enough to notice, you would need a different size tranny case which would require different mounting brackets etc.....not realistic for a bike and company that only offered different plastic for a $300 price tag difference the last two years....in other words...they change the front sprocket on the 05 TLD Pred to make the bike rev quicker and explode off the line....more teeth in front, the taller the gear the faster the top end...

It's a close ratio tranny, not a simple gear change. 1st is the same as the standard Pred with 2nd-4th being a close ratio and 5th being like a overdrive.

yep, says the same thing in dirtywheels. Close ratio tranny on tld pred. Though they said they weren't having to shift more, kept the in the power band better.

The one grip besides the usual (weight, and not a 450) was that the tires should be switched from the tld to the regular version and likewise. Feel the razr's would be a better fit on the tld.

I just bought the new dirt wheels mag. last week and I did not see anything about the 05 preds. Does it have any good pictures of the 05 TLD Pred? I would love to see a good picture of one.

One thing I couldn't believe that ATV Sport didn't include is a pic of the new Reverse feature. They gave a description but no pic. Duh.

I though the reveiw was positive.
A quote in the mag sez, "With the '05 Predator, we can honestly say we feel more comfortable than ever and our confidence level has increased while riding, especially the TLD model.
If Polaris didn't hit a home run with the TLD, it at least smacked a bases clearing triple high off the wall." they go on to say "Polaris chiseled the best Predator yet" and that "its an outstanding performance quad".
