Default Help! Can a battery cause this...?

Become so dead that it renders itself useless while starting (my starter needs re-built)? I noticed with my Trailblazer a few weeks ago that it was beginning to lose a little power. Thought it was a spark plug thing. Then, while in the back yard playing around some, the bike bogged down and quit running. Put a new plug in and it fired right up. Few days later have trouble starting it and spray a little either in it and it fires right up...then by the time I get to the back yard it just boggs down and quits again. Didn't have time to look at it because I was leaving to go on vacation. Come back from vacation to try and start it and it will not start at all. I notice the battery is bad/shot because the head light will not turn at all. The battery is so low that when you turn the key on, the shift indicator light is very dim and when you try and turn the headlight on the shift indicator lights will not glow at all.

However, I think that by using the pull rope it would generate enough current that it should send enough spark to the plug it would fire and the motor would start? Or am I wrong in my thought and there is more of a problem why this thing will not start? Is it as simple as buying a new battery and everything will be fine?

Hi luvit...

I've had batterys do some really wierd things. So yes, I do believe your battery could be the culprit. Change it out, and report back. If it doesn't work, We'll have to dig a bit deeper...

When I get home tonight I'm going to put my charger on it and give it a pull with the charger and see what happens. Hopefully it fires right up. There has been no other indication why this thing would not fire up or not start. It has always ran flawless until this battery has went dead. I'll report back tomorrow and hopefully its just the battery.!

BAD IDEA to use ether in a two stroke! It goes through the whole motor not just into the combustion chamber like a 4-stroke. Washes all the oil off the crank and bearings. Use gas with some premix in it if you have to squirt the carb to get it running.

hey chief, I would test the needle valve in the carb, sounds like it may be leaking and pushing too much fuel to the chamber. common problem.

good luck

If the dead battery causes the engine to spin over too slowly you will have no or a weak spark that using the recoil would solve. Once running the engine does not need the battery to run, it has a magneto ignition system that doesn't need a battery. I would start with a fully charged battery, but it sounds like a fuel supply problem to me.

Here is the update: I put a new plug in it and it fired right up! However, it ran like crap. rmkcac700, I took your advice and using my shop manual figured out that was the problem. Thanks!
