The new AWD systems functions the same as before, they just replace the Hilliard hubs with a Hilliard differential in front. Same principle, only now the front shafts are disconnected until the diff senses the slip and engages. '04s are like this, don't know about '03.

Tthe Scrammy dry weight is 571 lbs. But I agree with others. You don't choose a quad buy how much it will hurt if it falls on you. 400 pounds is still DAMN heavy if lands on you! You want a big workhorse utility quad to be well built, not a lightweight. I also agree that you don't get a big-bore ute for a beginner.

On the subject of the AWD engagement - I've never noticed in jerking/pulling/slamming when the AWD engages on my Xplorer. You never even notice when it happens. Maybe I've never been in just the situation you're encountering.

So no more transmission fluid and magnetic hubs?

Are they a standard drive train now?

I really appreciate the conversation. It's making my decision easier.
Yes no more hubs, and you change the oil in it just like the rear diff. This cuts down on stickin by only one thing to disconnect, rather than two hubs. With the new system you really can't tell the difference between 2 and 4 wheel drive (until your off in some deep mud...lol duh). My old 98 SP500 had the old style hubs, and both my old 700 and new 700EFI have the new style (which works sooooo much better).

Well this is an interesting topic. I have some speed comparisons for ya....

Today I went riding with my brother (700 efi) and a freind (BF 750). THey are both new bikes the polaris has around 200 miles on it. The BF is a few days old. They did a drag on pavement.

My buddie on the BF told my brother to go first. SO he took off. My buddie unleashed the beast. It stood almost strait up. He let out a little to get the tires down, and started to real my brother back in. Not real fast, but it was noticable. THe BF passed him and pulled steady. It wasn't that bad IMO. I would be very interested to see what the new 800 efi would do?

The BF did run a 650 prarie also. The prarie had some big tires on it. Still not match for the BF. But they said the prarie650 and the 700 efi would be a real close race. The only problem was the prarie wasn't their the day the BF and polaris 700 raced.
