Carburetor Trouble

I've had the same problem with my sportsman 400 carb. I jetted down (150 for my elevation), installed a new main jet (40), installed a needle jet, jet needle, adjusted the air screw, and I raised the clip up 2 notches. The only problem I still have, is it doesn't want to start (cold) not without a pullstart. Damn thing...I give up. Other than that, it runs great (warm).
Anyone have any advice?

Since you know that it idles fine, then obviously you can rule out the idle adjustment. You now have three more possible things to look at as far as jetting goes on the carb. 1) low speed pilot jet 1/8- 1/4 throttle. 2) needle jet jet 1/4- 3/4 throttle and 3) main jet 3/4-wide open. If you very slowly roll the throttle open and it dies at the slightest movement, then I would check #1 first and then progress your way upward checking the plug at each level. I have an article that can be emailed to ya if you aren't sure what to look for or how to do it. If all else fails, take the carb off, take it apart, clean it well and blow it out making sure that nothing is plugged. Make sure the float isn't stuck either. Before you go so far as to pull the carb off, make sure that none of the hoses off the carb are plugged or crimped. Let us know what you find out.
