from what you describe as your type of riding, i would definitely recommend a scrambler 500!!!!!

best all around is right........I could't have said it any better.

go for a '96 or a '99 if you plan on not buying new,they would
sell for cheap and run especially well.

I would go with a 2000 or newer to get the better suspenion.

Default SCRAMBLER 4X4

great choice! I have a 2003 500 4X4 and it is a beast on the trails. It's fast, great in the mud, climbs hills awesome and is a blast in the snow. Don't think you can go wrong with it.
