What size trailer do I need?
#1
I'm getting a 05 sportsman 500 in a few weeks but I need a trailer first. My wife also wants a quad so the trailer needs to carry 2 quads.I can put them on sideways with the ramps I have so the shortest lenth trailer. 4x8,5x10 or what?

If you are going to put them on sideways then it is going to have to be probably close to 7' wide, and the quads are generally about 50 - 55inches(giving some slack), so you are probably going to need atleast 9' long. So my bet is to go with something like 7 or 8' wide, and about 10' long.

i have been using a trailer i made for a few years now, its a 6x8 deck ontop of a 4x8 trailer kit from harbor freight or northern, i haul my scrambler and my girlfriends trailboss no problem.

are you going to use it just for the quads, if so you should think about a two place tilt snowmobile trailer. they can haul the quads side by side and it would be easier to load and unload. I've seen newer ones all over the place going for 300-750. I screwed up and passed on one about a month ago that was a 2003 yacht club aluminum two place tilt, stained wood, new spare, bigger high speed tires, front jack and support wheel, and even came with the ski hold down if using it for the snowmobiles. guy said he used it about three or four times and only wanted $600, I got him down to $575 but got picky and told him I'd think about it for a little bit, I called him back 1/2 hour later and he sold it for the full $600

In the near future I will be getting a 5 ft x 14 ft. trailer to haul my two quads. It has one foot side rails so I will be able to use it haul alot of other things as well. It has one axle so it is not to heavy to pull.

Hey scramblerXrated do you have ant photos of your trailer ? I have thought of doing the same thing with my 4x8 trailer. Is the deck made of only wood ? or did you weld extensions onto the original trailer frame and then place wood over that ?

i basically just built a 6x8 frame, with 2x4's, and joists every couple feet.. then bolted it to the 4x8 steel trailer frame. then topped it off with plywood. used some heavy duty eye bolts for tie down points.
the deck sticks out a foot on each side of the frame. the wheelers fit just perfect on it.
i couldnt find my good trailer pics. sorry.
hope this helps.
