Default Need scrambler fluids from other than the dealer.

I need to service all the fluids on my 500 Scrammy and my buddy wants to do his 400 Scram at the same time. Where can I get the fluids and which fluids should I buy. I hate to use the dealer due to poor service in the past. I seem to rember something about NAPA. Thanks for the help.

No more than you have to change them I would go with Polaris fluids. But you use any good synthetic 0-w40 motor oil in your 500,Mobil 1 tranny fluid in your front hubs but on the transmission I would get the Polaris. Not sure what changes over for the front dif I use all Polaris fluids.

Engine oil:
-Amsoil 0W-40 4 stroke syn. oil
-Mobil 1 0W-40 syn oil "Eurpoean Car formula"

Oil filter:
NAPA Gold #1358 (500 HO motor)

Hubs:
-Mobil 1 syn ATF
-ATF Type F

Front gearcase:
-Synthetic 80W-90 gear oil (marine grade works very well)

Transmission:
-Amsoil Series 2000 Syn. Chaincase lube
-Klotz Snomobile Chain Case Syn. Lube

And the Coolant is mixed at 60/40

A good grade of 10w30 oil is all you need for the counterbalance.

Until recently, I worked in the plant where we built the trannies and housings for Polaris. And the roller clutches, and, and , and . . ..
The Transmission oil - what we called PPS (Polaris Purple S---), is actually a synthetic Dexron III ATF with purple dye instead of red.
The front housing is a GL-5 rated 80W-90 hypoid gear oil. (Could use a synthetic 75W-90 oil here)
The oil in the 4X front hubs is the same 0W-40 4-stroke synthetic motor oil used in the motors.
Same oil used in the 400 counterbalancer.

PhilFixit or anyone else..... When PPS or Polaris Purple S is referred to, is this the same stuff as AGL transmission lube that Polaris reccomends for the rear transmission?

It's been easy to find from this forum altenatives for all fluids except for the rear tranny....Is it ok to use a synthetic DextronIII where Polaris AGL is recommended...this stuff is expensive and probably a Polaris way of scalping every owner out there.....

I have a 2002 400 Sportsman...

thanks TJ

OK, The "Rear" Tranny. The rear drive is integral with this gearcase - a GREAT design, if I may say so myself - and the Polaris AGL is the correct lubricant to use here. Synthetic Dexron III is the same lubricant, but you MAY find that it is less expecsive to use Polaris AGL.
I'd actually consider a Klotz or Amsoil product before I'd resort to the Synthetic Dex III, it's cheaper and easier to find.
Wouldn't hurt to reinforce the lubes with a little Energy Release - if you believe in the stuff.
The 1341360 Tranny holds 948 milliliters (1 Quart) of whatever lube you put in, from dead empty.
Best bet though? Use the Polaris products. That's what I'm doing.

That AGL lube was $18 a quart at the dealer... I couldn't believe it. Anything I can use in it's place that I could find at a regular autoparts store?
