Default Tire Chains

Does anyone use tire chains on your Polaris 4 x4's? would they create a nightmare with the AWD, by reducing the ability of rear tire spin and prohibiting the AWD from engaging, thereforecreating a nightmare when climbing hills?

I do a fair bit of riding in the snow and I need chains on the back to provide a little bit more traction. If I ride without chains, the back end slips out on me intermitently, due to the AWD kicking in and out. When I have the chains on it is just like riding in summer conditions never notice the AWD engaging or disengaging.

Thanks for the quick answer Krank!!! Would you recomend Chains for the front Also??? I am mostly concerned with riding in hilly terrain, I can get by fine on the flats, of course I have the Stock Rawhides on and the have a tendency to dig in a bit in the snow.......

Would having chains limit your speed?
If i wanted to plow snow on a lake, i assume i would need them, as it would be pure ice under the heavy snow- anyone have experience? And would i have to remove them to trail ride in the snow/ on plowed dirt roads (usually 1-2 inches of snow still on them)? THANKS tyler

I have the rawhides too. I would buy the rear chains and try them out. If you find you need more, buy the fronts too.

Tyler, we use our 400 Sportsman to plow off a lake to practice with our race sled. We have used chains on the rear tires and it worked very well. With out them, the back end of the quad wanted to slide around when the blade was at an angle. We were pushing 4-5 inches of snow though.

Thanks stickhauler. Anyone know about how much snow the sportsman 400 could handle before traction loss, plowing pavement? or ice? i know it depends on the snow type, but i do know that the plow on my craftsman garden tractor with wheel weights and chains starts spinning with a few inches of wet stuff, or about a foot of powder... Thanks, tyler
