Greg, I just bought outer tie-rod ends a few days ago. I checked my bill. They gave me a discount but they do list the price for 2 outer rod end kits at 80 dollars; so I would say that your dealer is telling you the truth about the price change. That
person should have handled it much better then he did. Lets hope, a different person handles it better and apologizes for the other person. I don't think you will have to pay 80 dollars either.

ps: the shop nocked 40.00 off, so I got the 2 for 40, according to my receipt.

Individual Polaris OEM new style tie rod ends list for $19.75 each. You can buy the individual pieces, rods, inner and outer ends, bolts, cheaper than the complete kits. Have your dealers check it out.

I purchased the heim style tie rod ends from a local bearing supply house. The bearing house distributed them for a company called Boston Bearing. I purchased two rod ends. They are both left handed thread 1/2" x 1/2" fine thread. I inserted a steel 3/8" id and 1/2" od bushing in the rod end so that I didn't have to drill the hole larger on the strut. I have two washers between the rod end and the strut housing so theat the joint can move. On the bottom I placed a lock washer and nylon lock nut to hold the 3/8" allen bolt that runs thorough the rod end and strut housing. I purchased the rubber boots that are on the new heim stle rod ends Polaris is using from my dealer. They will fit over the rod ends I purchased with a little stretching. I drilled a small hole in the boots so that the grease fitting is accessible. The rod ends were $12.00 each, the rubber boots were $3.00 each, and the miscellaneous busings, bolts, washers, and screws were another $5.00. I have about 100 miles on the new ends and they are holding up very well. There was a very small amount of play in the ends simply because of how a heim joint works. That play has become slightly more evident with the 100 miles. I am not sure if the heim joint is wearing or if the bolt running through the bushing has worn a little and increased play. Only time will tell.

Chooperbill,
I spoke with the Polaris dealership and they priced the Polaris Tie-rod end at $38.95.

I just got off the phone with the owner of the shop and he says he will credit my card for the purchase amount. He also said that Parts Unlimited will have trouble selling the Tie Rod ends for $42.95 when the Polaris Tie-Rod ends are only $36.95 through him. I am going by Motion Industries today to see about getting a set.

Greg: This is the scoop
Part number 2201743 is for the tie rod end, bolt, nut and washer and is priced at $39.75 and is a kit to replace the old style ends.
Part number 7061054 is for just the tie rod end and is priced at $19.75 (the bolt is $2.75 priced separate)
Quite a bit more for the hardware in the kit isn't it? It sounds like a price mistake but thats the way it comes out. If you are paying $39.75 instead of $19.75 for just the tie rod end you are, my friend, getting ripped.
Have the parts in my hand and just looked the price up on the putor.

Does the kit (P/N 2201743) contain two tie rod ends, bolts, etc.?

I just found out that i could buy the 3/8-20 Left hand thread hiem joints from Day MotorSports here in Tyler for $6.00 each. They do not have grease zerks or boot, but for $6.00 I can live with it and replace when necessary. I was told that the outside tie rods are both left hand thread.

2201743 kit is for ONE tie rod end with ONE of each piece of hardware. I know this seems strange but is true. I caught wind of this on this forum a while back.
If you need the complete tie rod assy' to replace old syle small ends it is cheaper to buy the individual parts than the kit. Who knows why?
By the way I mentioned in another post that we had a "00" 500 machine come in with the new style tie rod ends with 4800+ miles on it in 5 1/2 months and they were in like new condition. Why run around town to save a few paultry pesos when you can get the real deal for only $19.75 each and they last that long.
And another by the way. This guy is a ditch rider and is mud and water all day long.
