GREG,
your last post says that youre buying 3/8 x20 Rod ends... Is this a typo or do you have a machine thats got 3/8 steering rods?.. Make sure you are ordering the 1/2x20 rod ends...

I have just replaced my tie rods and ends. I gave up with the stock rod and had an engineer make me some new rods with 10mm thread (L/R) both ends. I was then able to get rod ends and rose joints in the corect thread. I replaced all the bolts with 10mm bolts as well. As these are slightly larger than the 3/8 stock, they are very tight in the holes. I had to have spacers made for the rod end (Streaing post end) as I could not buy the rod ends with the correct spacing. The rose joints (wheel end) are perfect, and fit right in with not problems. All the ends and rose joints are teflon coated, but I decided against grease fittings as grease attracts dirt, dirt grinds, then you have to replace the ends again.

The whole project including engineer costs, new bolts and nylock nuts all round and all fittings cost me $86.00. It took about 20 mins to get the old ones off, and the new ones on, then about 1 hour to set the toe correctly!

The best thing you can do is replace the lower streaing post bush (stock is plastic) with the one from HPD. Also loose the castle nut on the bottom of the post and replace with a nylock.

I am having a new bush made for the top of the post as this is not my weakest link.

I have decided on getting a Polaris Sportsman, and by the way, i was wondering how you get all of the custom work that you are talking about to tie rods and etc. done, and how much stronger it will make the bike? thanks....
