Information on Tie-Rod Ends, Need help ASAP

I priced some Polaris tie-rod at $36 a peice. I chose to order the aftermarket ones from Parts Unlimited through a local dealer. I paid for them Tuesday and the price was $17.95 each. I went to pick them up today and they would not let me have them. It seems the aftermarket Tie-Rod Ends are now $42.95 each. So they wanted an extra $50. At this time, they have refused to give me my money back. The owner was not there. It was difficult not to ****** that idiot by the throat. He wouldn't give me my money or the Tie-Rod Ends I had already paid for. His book showed a cost of $13.20 but his invoice showed $30.00 each with a retail of $42.95. I called the local Polaris place and they also said that the price of these tie-rod ends went up to $39.95.
Anyway, if I had a dog, I would kick it. This isn't even my bike I am working on and he is paying for his parts so it really isn't the money issue that has me pissed. It is the fact he quoted me a price and I paid for it, and he wouldn't give me my money or the parts.
I read on here a while back that you can go to an auto parts store and buy similar tie rods for around $15. Does anyone have part numbers or can anybody tell me how I might go about finding a Tie-rod that will work?
Any help will be appreciated.

greg,i priced aftermarket hiem joints..there 1/2x1/2eyelt and thread. you can get them left or right thread, with grease fittings.they were like 18 bucks a piece from a local bearing supply house..i also found the same without grease fittings but teflon lined in a grainger catalog for 8 bucks a piece..i ended up getting rid of the bike and didnt use them.. you will have to get 3/8 bolts and bushings for the strut end, because the strut is a 3/8 hole,as well as put a washer between the joint and strut so the joint has room to move.. i dont see why they wouldnt hold up as well if not better as the inner tie rods as this is what they are hiem joints which now happens to be the updated outer tie rod as im sure your aware, but they dont have the rubber boots..someone else mentioned maybe dipping them in the stuff they sell for like plier handles to put a rubber coating on them..i never got that far with it so im not sure if that stuff works..hope this helps, good luck..i would go back and demand they give the parts at the price you paid,if you have a receipt that you paid in full, they have no right not to give you your merchandise..its their fault for not knowing prices and selling them for the wrong price..good luck with that one

I need a set of rubber covers myself. For the "eyelet" outers that I gotten from Motion Industries. I've made the bushing reducer, but I need the rubber covers to complete the change over.
I had a person call Tulsa Area Polaris Dealers today and they said 20 bucks each for replacements for a '99 SP. (Old style joint). I have a big ride coming up, so may be reduced to going back to Polaris in Tulsa. (If Part is "on hand" that is.) Ride'em Hard Polcat

Greg,
Look at the pics of my setup on my yahoo picture site. There you should find a few pics of the exact parts I used to solve the Polaris design flaws... Me and PFelect came up with most of this.
Also, Do a search on the forum for a topic called Tie Rod Ends.. A Fix On The Way.. Its a thread I started... in there, you will find all the part numbers and very specific instructions and what worked, and what mods had to be made...
Good Luck..

Gregsims,
If you have your reciept for the transaction, you have a very legal and binding contract with the dealer, it doesn't matter if they F'ed up or not. Tell them either cough up the product, or you will see them in small claims court.

I have purchased 7 atvs in the last two years and I have spent about $5000 with this establishment in the last two years. I hope tomorrow when the owner gets back that it is not a problem. I don't expect him to sell me the items for 18.95 a peice if they cost him $30. I believe he will give me my money back or sell the parts to me for cost. I would really like to just find another alternantive. I work on alot of bikes for friends and $80 to replace two tie-rod ends is a joke.
