Default 04.5 sportsman 600 take off power?

I've got about 10 hours on my sportsman, and its been great!!!! The other day, it acted like the brakes were locked when i tried to take off. I double checked and the brakes were definately off, so I put it in reverse for a little bit and seemed ok from there. rode it for a while and everything seemed ok. before I put away for the night, I decided to check the rpm's to see what it took to take off-- I had accellerated very slowly and the clutch started to engage around 2100 rpm, in high gear?

anyone know what the problem may have been?
and what is your normal rpm for regular takeoff?

thanks so much for any help I can get!!!

Remember the way the clutch and belt system works on a sportsman. It will take some RPM's to get it going, especially in high gear. If I get a chance or remember, I'll check my 700 and see how many RPMs it takes before engagement.

Thanks elkbow.. I am just concerned that it may be taking too much power to get her going. Any information you could provide would be very helpful!!!

I checked my '05 700 EFI....basically its starts moving form a stop immediately, but the clutch is not fully engaged. You can feel it grab at RPM's all the way up to 2900. Basically what I think you are experiencing is normal. You should however be moving somewhat prior to full engagement....

That tranny / clutch setup is designed to Haul *** in high range no dilly dallying at low rpms. hard on the clutch and stuff. if your gonns put put put her in low. and give it some throttle to lock up the clutch then let back off. Thats the best way i found with the Sportman 500 anyhow.

thanx for all the help guys. I was curious as to what others were getting. It sounds like mine is running correctly.
