I’m wondering why I see so many people not wearing a helmet. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be the first one to admit that I’ll occasionally take a leisurely ride around the yard without my helmet. However, it is disturbing to see so many pictures posted on the internet of people taking trail rides with groups of people with no helmets. There is a slide show on one of the posts that shows some people going though some very difficult rocky terrain (some rollovers!) with no helmets. I guess I don’t understand. I’m not trying to tell people what to do, but I am surprised that so many people would take risks like that and I’m curious as to why. I know it’s a personal thing, but I wonder what factors (they’re hot, mess up your hair, none of the other guys wear them and don’t want be a geek, etc.) overrules common sense. As for me, I used to ride dirt bikes and would have been dead by now if I didn’t wear a helmet. (Hope no one takes offense, just curious)

Good post Arrowhead. I've noticed people posting pics. without helmets too...it bothers me too see these people risking their lives.
Helmets can also protect your eyes...well I have a full faced helmet and I put the shield down when I go through the bush...and good thing I wear it, I wouldn't have any eyes because of tree branches slamming against my helmet.

SO PEOPLE WEAR YOUR HELMETS & GOGGLES!!!!!!!!!

I agree. Please wear your helmets. I too would have been killed or seriously injured without a
helmet when I rode dirt bikes. I was lucky and only broke both my arms. (That's another story).
No matter how good a rider you are you can never be prepared for the unexpected.

I wear mine everytime I ride. And with all the styles and options out there, there is no reason not to wear one. They make one for every style of riding. You sure can't complain about the weight of them anymore, mine weighs in at just over 2lbs. And they look good, so why not?

I agree, Lurch...it just does'nt make sense not to wear a helmet. It amazes me to see so many people of all ages riding without helmets on the internet and even the places that I ride. I went riding the other day with 9 other riders and guess how many was wearing helmets? 2...me and another guy. A guy that I work with was threw off of his ATV almost directly on his head. If he had not been wearing a helmet, he would be lucky to be walking around today. Todays helmets fit great and look the same. Wearing a helmet can be compared to wearing a watch...after you wear it a couple of times...you don't even notice it.

My first big wipeout. Don't remember my head hitting the ground, but the proof was on the helmet. Left side; big old gouge. Probabley from the tree cuttings on the trail. Zero head injury- the rest of me however.....

Normally we wear our helmets. Only time we dont wear them is when we have to pull in the woods with an 18ft trailer. The bikes weigh the trailer don soo much we have to take them off and ride them into the woods. This way the truck will be able to pull the trailer into an off road pit.

I wear my helmet when riding. I don't use when loading & unloading the quads. It is disturbing when riding with our club all the children wear helmets, & almost all of the women wear them, however couple of the 15 or so adult males wear them.
