axle rolling forward and messing up chain
#1
I have a 2001 trailboss 325. I have to tighten the chain just about everytime after riding. I have the back two bolts torqued to 70 lbs and they aren't coming loose but everytime i got to tighten my chain it seems the axles had come off of the back little stops that prevent it from going to far back. Its like is is rolling forward and it is causing my chain to be loose. Does anyone know why the axle is doing that?

Have you checked to see if the axle housing on the swingarm has strectched and the top and bottom point are making contact? That would keep it from staying tight, but I've never had that problem with mine. I've got the manual at home (hard at work right now) so I can't get the torque specs for the bolts. On mine, I always just done it with a plain socket wrench. Also may want to check into new lock washers and some Lock-Tite.

The best thing you can do is call Rick Ritter at Ritter Cycle. Tell him what you want to get out of your mods. He's got the best customer service I've seen. The mods gave it more power and better sound. Now the Boss wasn't designed to be a speed demon, so don't set your expectations too high. The kit gave it so much more bottom end, I had to change the sprocket to keep from spinning the tires in mud and sand. Maybe new tires would change that, but the sprocket was a lot cheaper. If you really want to put money into your Boss, you could go with the 414 bore kit, but if your sinking that much money into it, you could just buy a Scrambler and be ahead money wise. In my opinion the Boss is the best 2WD I've ridden. One of the best 2WD in mud, power for light utility work, enough speed to stay close to bigger quads (on trails, not in a drag) and one of the most comfortable rides out there. Just keep up with the regular services (buy a manual, do it yourself, save money). Mine has had no troulbe at all. I'll probrably keep mine until the wheels fall off, then stick 'em back on and ride some more.
