Scrambler? Good/Bad? Please help!!
#1
I owned a utility atv (03 ARCTIC CAT 400 Auto) and I really like the bike! Great ground clearance, confortable, 4x4. I sold it and was thinking about getting the Suzuki Z400 which looks like alot of fun which is what I am more interested in but it lacks 4wheel drive. I want something faster and fun to ride + be able to go threw mud if needed. I just started looking at the 05 Scrambler and feel it is the best of both worlds so I would like your advice.
1 Can the scrambler pull a wheelie?
2 Does the auto take away alot of power from the motor? Any problems with the eng, trans, shocks,
belts, electical fan etc.
3 Does this atv have true 4 wheel drive?
4 How is the ride and is it to heavy to get air?
5 pros and cons of this bike? Any changes btwn the 04 & 05 model?
6 Do the chains last long in the rear or do they have to be adjusted alot?
7 I like the bike but feel I could be asking for double trouble by having a belt trannie with a chain
drive rear.
8 What is the biggest tires you can put on this bike?
The next quad that I buy will be my last one for a long long time and I want the best I can get! I prefer a manual trans because I don't want to get stranded in the woods or get water/mud in the belt housing, never owned a chain drive quad before (unsure of reliability).
I know this is a long post but your advice and knowledge will be appreciated!!! Any comment will help! Thanks very much!

1. yes
2. only on the top end, which can be cured with a clutch kit
3. yes,,,,all 4 tires lock in when the rear tires slip 1/5th rotation faster than the front in AWD mode. This feature gives it more of a sport feel as usually it is just the rear tires pushing.
4. Not the best for big air due to its weight, and number of moving parts.
5. pros: go anywhere you want, great all purpose trailbike, can select 2wd or 4wd
cons: its dead in the water if you get the belt wet, a little more involved maintinence due to the 4wd (as with any 4wd)
the 05 has a new seat design and some brush gaurds on the handlebars and are black/yellow,,,and they did away with the rear FOX shock
6. The chains last a long time if you arent jumping a lot. The chains have been known to break under heavy jumping condition/lack of proper maintenance
7. my 02 scrammy is still going strong with no problems (all stock),,,,,,my 02 Raptor has been in tha garage with a broken motor for a while now (and I beat the heck out of our scrammy,,,,tough machine
8. I personally wouldnt recommend much larger tires for this bike. I have seen 25's on them however.
Use the 'search' feature regarding Scrambler.
I would recommend the bike after owning one for a couple years now.

I have two scrammy's and a predator... I use the scrammy for trail riding and a back-up machine for the dunes (if I'm able to ride after doing something stupid on the preddy). Just paddle it up for the dunes and it will climb the hills. I've aired it out on the dunes... lands pillow soft. But it does weigh a bunch so it will be hard on the entire drive train. Great machine all the way around, highly recommended.
