Magnum Info!!

Considering buying a new 325 Magnum. I like the look of the machine and the price is right. Looking for some feedback on the quality of this paticular model. I did notice that the rear shock attaches to the gear cover on the rear end. It dosen't look like a very srong place to connect it to. Has anyone experienced a failure of this part? Any comments appreciated!

I HAVE HAD MY MAGNUM 325 4X4 SINCE SEPT.1999AND HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS. I RIDE MOSTLY TRAILS AND HILLS BUT SOMETIMES FIND SOME MUD. I RIDE MINE AT LEAST FIVE DAYS A WEEK. NO PROBLEMS OTHER THAN A LITTLE VIBRATION AT FIRST BUT AFTER ADJUSTEMENT ON IDLE EVERTHINGS FINE.ANY QUESTIONS FEEL FREE TO E-MAIL ME. GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY TRAILS!!!!!

Hi!
I have a Magnum 325 2x4, and I'm very satisfied with it. The major complaint on the 325 engine is with the vibration it makes, some quads left the factory with an unnecessary engine mount which worsened the vibration problem. I've seen a 325 Trail Boss (same engine) with this problem, even the back tires vibrated. I haven't had this problem with mine, although I suspect one of the reasons for this vibration is that the idle speed is too low, it needs to be adjusted just a little higher (which I did).
Maintenance is easy, with just 6 greasing zerks to take care of - 4 on the forward suspension, 1 on the steering column, 1 on the rear CV-join (the 4x4 probably has more), and the oil filter is of the cartridge spin-on type.
It's not a very fast ATV, but from my experience riding with other people, the rest of the riders don't have to wait for me, so it's fast enough!
And fast enough to get killed, so...
And it's a well balanced quad, all in all. Some people would like more speed, but I find it fast enough.

ppinheiro, check the steering column again, it has a zerk down near the tie rods and one right under the handlebar clamp that can be seen from the front.
I'm still trying to find all the ones in the universal joints.
I've had mine since May 1999 and had no problems with it except for having oil run all over the skid-plate every time I change the oil. The suspension is very rugged and has handled all the pounding and rock crawling that I do.
When people talk about it being under-powered, understand that this is in comparison to the large displacement machines. It has enough power to do everything that I want except to keep up with the big bore machines when going up hills at speed.
I've thoroughly enjoyed my 325 4x4 and would recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable utility machine.

Does any one know, performance wise, how the 325 Magnum compares to a Honda 300. My dad currently uses a 300 Honda 2wd & I think he would be well suited with the 325 Magnum, but we don't want to go backwards in terms of pulling/hauling ability or speed. We do a lot of weed spraying in pastures with our ATVs and go down county gravel roads up to 4 miles and like to get there at a good rate without having to 'scream' the engine.

This may not be a true test, but...
I was goofing around with one of the guys I ride with and started pushing his Honda 300 2wd from behind while we were stopped. He then put on his brakes and it didn't seem to matter.
I backed off a little and he put in reverse and started to push me backwards, so I gave it a little gas and started pushing him forward. All of this was in 2wd.
Now for the extenuating circumstances: we were on gravel. In this case, he who has the greatest weight wins!
The Magnum 325 4x2 is rated to tow 850 lbs. and will pull much more, it just can't stop it. Honda doesn't list towing capacity on its web site so I can't tell you how much it will tow.
I don't think you'd have any drop-off in performance and will probably have a gain. Like I said, I don't have the hard numbers to prove it though.
My opinion, your milage may vary.

I wouldnt worry about the mounting point of that rear shock. Im pretty sure its exactly the same as my Xpedition 425 and Ive pounded mine hard, even caught a little air now and then and that rear shock hasnt broke off yet!
