Trail Boss vs. Lakota ???
#1
I'm in the market for a sport/utility bike and I want to know if the Trail Boss can hand with the Lakota or Lakota Sport.
If not, could it be done with a few add-ons, because I was quoted $3600 on the 2000 Trail Boss and $4100 on the 2001 Lakota Sport. That leaves a little cash for mods.
Let me know what you think.

The trail boss is a great machine. I just got back from beating my wifes trail boss on some tough terrain and it performed great. In its stock form, it is not overly fast. A guy with a forum name 325 put an RCR stage 1 kit in for $250 and he said it really upped the performance. See the ads section for RCR's website and phone number. I was hoping to ride with a Lakota this weekend, but the rider did not get it registered in time. Why are the charging $3,600 for a tboss. The MSRP is $3,499 and I picked mine up for $3,300. Best quad on the market for that price.

I paid $3400 for mine. $3600 may not be out of line though. I think for 2001 they are going to retail for $3699. If you pay $3600 make sure you get a 2001. Even if they are the same machine why get a year older?
I would say go with the Trail Boss. I will be getting the 414cc kit from Rick Ritter(www.rittercycle.com). The machining, Piston and High performance camshaft run $510. Free labor if you know someone or can do it yourself or figure $150 labor. So for around $4200 you have a 400 class machine! With mod It should run around 55 mph and get you there pretty fast. With added power down low to play with you could even mess with changing sprockets for more top end if you desire. I would get the Boss, have fun with it until the warranty runs out (if you can wait, I could not) and then get the 414 kit.
