Default 98 sportsman 500 4 wheel drive

My 98 sportsmans front right hub will not engage with the tire on it, if i take the tire off it will engage but i can stop it with a single finger. The left side works flawlessly, I have cheked the voltage to the coils and they are the same, the coils actually ohm out to the same reading 26 ohms. I have cleaned and inspected every part of the hub assymbly and only notice a little wear on the armature plate but its not bent, fits flush to hubstrut seal sleeve. With the ring only it really sticks to the coil/magnet good but when put all back together it does not turn the hub under pressure. Is this just a weak coil or what? If it is how do you get the hubstrut seal sleeve off to get to the magnetic coil?.

Default HELP!! SPORTSMANS 4 WHEEL DRIVE

sounds like you might need a new armature plate or it could be bent

Default HELP!! SPORTSMANS 4 WHEEL DRIVE

I had the same problem on a 95 425 Magnum. It was a bent plate, felt like it stuck good but with the tire and weight of the 4 wheeler it wouldn't engage.

Default HELP!! SPORTSMANS 4 WHEEL DRIVE

I got it fixed it was the clearance on the seal to the coil there was about an 1/8 th inch gap between the two. I had the seal replaced last year about this time and they must have not checked it when it was put back together. I didnt notice it till a couple weeks ago b/c I have not had to use the 4 wheel drive so its been that way for a year but its good now and I am educated enough on how it works to do future repairs.
