I live in a small town in Illinois and am 4 blocks from the fields we ride along. We got a new police officer(about 2 months on force) and he pulled me over 1 block from my house. He gave me a ticket! I have lived here the past 24 years and have never seen anyone get pulled over for an atv. He acted like I did a hit and run. I pulled right over and figured he would just tell me to stay on the side or to keep out of peoples yards. Im not happy. I even explained that we ride on the side of the road and it is only 4 blocks and he just didn't care. I even have insurance on it and had my headlights on like I always do when im in town, It has a brake light too.

In the winter the snowmobiles ride right into town and get filled up on gas.

My question is if any one has any info on the ticket as far as cost and effect on my record?
Should I call the station and see if I can get it droped?

The cop had no clue cause he never gave that ticket out before.

Sorry to hear about your D head cop.We had one like that before tried to give me a ticket for riding a quad around my house and on the sidewalk in front of my house(on my property) told him if he gave it to me that sidewalk wouldnt be there in the morning.He told I would go to jail I told him been there before.He left me alone reaal good after he found out I was running for the village board(didnt get it).But these small town cops are jerks and the ticket will stick unless you know the right person.

 

Yeah I got a ticket a few years ago during winter was riding down a trail and cops on snowmobiles pulled me over, I was all legal they actullay pulled out there law books to find something to give me a ticket on. Anyway I pleaded not guilty and they reduced it down to noisey exhaust 35 dollars.

 

Any idea what this does to your insurance or driving record, or does it have nothing to do with this?

 

What was the violation? Riding on the street?

 

The ticket says, "Improper operation of atv on street."
