Why in the world do you need a 3,000 pound winch on an ATV? I have never failed to unstick my 6x6 with a 2,000 pound winch including having a trailer being pulled behind me.

with a 700+ pound machine stuck in the mud, you can easily use all that power....I have been sunk in muskeg , amidst sticks and logs , that made my winch work real hard.....no regrets with the 2500...I would easily get a 3000 next time

Interesting 10 years ago a big winch was a 2,000. That was when the King Quad 280cc weighed over 600 pounds. I would think it is easier to carry a ****** block to double the winches pulling power if you need it.

A 3000 pounder is certainly plenty of winch. As I mentioned in my post above, one can have a 3.0ci for what people are paying for the 2.5ci. Also, my understanding is the 3.0ci is a better unit in that it has a waterproof housing and a centered spool. The 2.5's have had some issues in the past due to water infiltration in the motor and the switches/contactor.

i dunno about my superwinch 3000, it was a lot less than the competing ramsey's and warn's, so im not sure about it. i havent gotten stuck yet, so i cant vouge for it there. but it has a TON of single line power. with the brakes on, pulling with the cable level with the ground from the front, it can easily lift the back of my sportsman in the air, even with me on it. if i had chosen a winch, i probably would have chosen a warn 2.5 or 3.0. to get the superwinch to fit with my unique brushguard (still havent figured out why mines different) it took a little cutting of the mounting plate. I was a real newb when i got my sportsman ( i still am actually) so i had the dealer put it on, and when i picked it up it had a superwinch on it. so far, no complaints

hey yaK how do you like your 400? I think it seems to lack a little in performance power, but it can pull a lot of weight. i think that probably makes it safer, cuz im a kid and i'd probably do something stupid if it went fast or did wheelies so im pretty satisfied with it

I think the 400's have plenty of power. They are really only 75cc's smaller than a 500 and about 5mph slower on the top end. You will run out of traction before you run out of power.

I have both, a 400 and a 500HO. The 400 does lack a bit of that "Fun Factor Power", that little extra "ooomph" when you're really tearing it up on the Dunes or something but that is comparing it to a 500. In the 400 class it has lot's of power...plenty of power to get you in trouble.

Ha i know, im not that stupid . Is the towing capacity on the 400 and 500 that different? the only time i really notice a lack of power is in deep mud, where i have to shift to low (as i should) but my neighbor's 500 can make it fine in hi. hows the mileage difference between the two?
