Default front hub oil

What kind of fluid does everyone use in the front hubs on their 4x4 scramblers? I read somewhere that atf tranny fluid is the same thing, maybe even better. Anyone heard of this ?

I know a lot of people use Mobil 1 and Amsoil ATF with good results, but they are not rated Ford Type F. They are a Mercon/Dexron II fluid which is not as sticky as Type F. I don't know how much this matters in this application, but I just thought I would point it out.

From what I understand, if you take apart the hub and remove all the old fluid then the Mobil 1 or Amsoil work great. I have not had any hub problems relating to the type of fluid fluid used. I completely cleaned out my hubs, bearings, hillard clutch. All of it and started fresh.

These hubs take such a small amount of fluid that you can easily fill, flush, drain, etc a few times to make sure all old fluid is removed.

Yeah. Especially if you buy a quart of trans fluid. It will last years!
